Electrooxidation of simulated wastewater containing pharmaceutical amoxicillin on thermally prepared IrO2/Ti

<p>The electrooxidation of amoxicillin (AMX) on the iridium oxide electrode thermally prepared (400°C) has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and preparative electrolysis. Physical characterization Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that IrO<sub>2</sub> a rough surface with pores' presence. In voltammetry, oxidation AMX occurs directly at anode's or via higher degree (IrO<sub>3</sub>). It is noted process can be controlled diffusion combined phenomenon adsorption. electrolysis, effect several parameters investigated. These are current density, support medium, initial pH. The findings obtained show weak degradation amoxicillin. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) reduction rate less than 11% under our experimental conditions, indicating IrO2 leads to parent compound's conversion. Also, organic compound favored in very acidic medium.<strong></strong></p><p>Furthermore, inorganic ions such as SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup>, PO<sub>4</sub><sup>3-</sup>, NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup>, Cl<sup>-</sup> was evaluated. Investigations these ions' effects diverse, COD rates ranging from 2.47%; 2.68%; 7.7%; 16.41%, 71.65%, respectively, absence presence Cl<sup>- </sup>ions. SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup> have virtually no enhancing PO<sub>4</sub><sup>3-</sup> provide slight improvement degradation. As for nitrate ions, their influence 2.31 times phosphate ions. Chloride improve performance significantly. chloride makes it possible go 2928.35 (absence ions) 33.19 kWh per Kg COD. This represents an energy gain over 98%.</p>
